Town's second string fell to a 1-0 defeat against a young Chelsea side in front of a larger than usual reserves crowd. The visitors were the better side in the first half and Town in the second, however sub Jimmy Smith scored Chelsea's superb winner late in the game.

Loanee striker Shefki Kuqi could sign for Town permanently in the next few days after discussions opened with Sheffield Wednesday. As TWTD reported earlier in the week, the Finn could join on a free transfer, but with cash payable if the Blues are promoted in May.

Town overcame fellow promotion hopefuls Sheffield United 3-0 in a scrappy affair played in torrential conditions at Portman Road. Shefki Kuqi, on loan from Sheffield Wednesday, scored the first from a spotkick with Ian Westlake and Darren Bent netting in the second half.

Town fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Derby County at Pride Park. Goals from Peter Kennedy and Daniele Dichio inside a minute just before the break put the home side ahead. A penalty from Tommy Miller and a header from Darren Bent won the Blues the point.

Central defender John McGreal is included in Joe Royle's 16-man party for Saturday's trip to Derby County. The 31-year-old looks set to make his first appearance of the season in place of the suspended Richard Naylor.

Town boss Joe Royle will wait before deciding whether central defender John McGreal is fit enough to replace the suspended Richard Naylor at Derby on Saturday. McGreal, yet to feature this season, played the full 90 minutes for the reserves last night but didn't train today as a precaution.

Town manager Joe Royle will have his fingers crossed that defender John McGreal comes through tonight's reserve game at home to Nottingham Forest unscathed (KO 7pm). If he is successful McGreal looks certain to go into the senior side for Saturday's visit to Derby.
